Autumn family fun at Coughton Court
Coughton is the perfect place to book for a family day out. Whatever the season, there's plenty of adventures to be had from spotting birds on the riverside walk, discover an ancient woodland, see what's growing in the orchard, or simply have fun outdoors.
There's plenty of fun to be had for the whole family as we head into the autumn months from enjoying a peaceful stroll along the lakeside to exploring the giant plants growing in the bog garden and there's plenty of wildlife to spot along the riverbanks.
Here are Coughton’s top five '50 things' activities to try out:
19: Play pooh sticks – Whose twig will win?
There are several bridges here that you can use. One is by the ford which is on our family walk. Check which way the water is flowing before you throw.
4: Build a den - Every part of den building is brilliant.
If you go over to the woods today you can try den building. There are lots of branches lying around. Please don't pull any off the trees. Can you build one big enough to get into?
18: Create some wild art - Can you make something beautiful?
Look around you at all the beautiful things lying around especially at autumn time. Can you make a picture or a sculpture from them? Twigs can make a really artistic frame. Take a photo and maybe even print it out when you get home.
7: Fly a kite - Do you need a windy day?
Cross over the river bridge towards Timm's Grove and there is a wide open field just right to practice flying your kite. Will yours fly?
31: Make friends with a bug
Bugs often hide from predators so you have to hunt for them. Try turning over a piece of bark or moving some fallen leaves to see what you can find.
This autumn head over to our ancient woodland and discover a trail all about the story of the gunpowder plotters. From treachery to high treason, follow the path round the woodland and collect all the red letters to finish the rhyme.
Picnics at Coughton
Having a picnic in the open air with family is one of life's greatest pleasures. Here at Coughton you can enjoy your al fresco feast on one of the picnic tables by the stable yard or over the bridge by the river or on the back lawn. No folding chairs or tables please as they can damage the lawn. Don't forget the kiosk is serving takeaway coffee, teas, hot chocolates, cakes and bakes, ice-cream and savoury snacks daily from 9.30am – 5pm. For everyone’s safety at this current time drinks will be served in our takeaway compostable containers which are made from plants.
