Go at your own pace!

Explore Roman archaeology on our Self-guided Roman Audio Tour!

For conservation reasons, we restrict access to the Roman underground workings at very busy times of the year (such as school summer holidays).

Our Self-guided Roman Audio tour is an excellent alternative to the guided tour and is available every day throughout the season.

The Self-guided Tour provides a recorded commentary, together with interpretation boards, as you make your way around the Roman areas of our site.  The Tour is an opportunity to discover Roman mine entrances, surface archaeology and stunning scenery.

Because our Roman working is floodlit, and not extensive, you can get a good sense of the design and architecture of this drift mine from outside the entrance.

Go at your own pace up steep steps, through woodland paths and out onto the open hillside.

Dogs on leads are welcome everywhere - whether they have a keen interest in archaeology, or just like a bit of a walk!
