Stormy Weather

We had to delay our checks at the beginning of the week due to strong Northerly winds and a high swell. Despite this it has been a great week for the islands.

On the Inner Farne we prepared the Tern nesting areas and we were delighted today to see that the Arctic Terns have eggs. On the cliff whilst checking the railing I noticed new Shag chicks! They are one of my favourite chicks because they aren’t fluffy at all and look like pterodactyls. Around the South side of the Island the Kittiwakes were busy collecting mud, carrying it back to the cliff and stamping it into their nests. There have been sightings of Eider ducklings in Seahouses harbour which are likely to have come from the Islands. We will be keeping an eye out on the Islands for more ducklings making their way towards Seahouses.
