Here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions about Eskdale Campsite.

Where is the nearest food shop?

There is a shop on site selling all the essential items.

Opening times vary during the season, see facilities. During the day we will be closed between 11am and 2pm to undertake cleaning and maintenance.

Local stores also available at Eskdale Green, Gosforth, Egremont.

What kinds of accommodation are on site?

As well as pitches for tents and campervans, there are 10 cosy pods and a bell tent with log-burner at Eskdale.

Where is the nearest pub/restaurant?

There are pubs at Boot and a café at Dalegarth Station, a short walk from the campsite.

Where is the nearest cash machine?

Banks are available at; Budgens and Co Op, Gosforth 8 miles, Seascale (Nat West) 10 miles, Broughton-In-Furness (Barclays) 13 miles, Egremont (HSBC, Nat West) 16 miles.

Where is the nearest petrol station?

Holmrook (on A595 road) 6.8 miles.

Do you accept dogs?

Eskdale is a dog-friendly campsite and all well-behaved dogs are welcome at no additional charge. They must be kept on a lead at all times and exercised away from other campers. Please pick up after your dogs right away. Dogs are not allowed in the showers and toilets.

Audible devices

No radios, stereos or other sound systems please.

Public WiFi

This is available at reception (and close by). Please note the Wi-Fi should not be relied upon and is slower during busy periods.

Do you hire freeze packs?

Yes.

Do you exchange gas cylinders?

Yes.

Can we go fishing nearby?

Can we play golf nearby?

Where is the nearest town or village?

The nearest village is Boot just a few minutes’ walk away. Nearest town Egremont (16 miles).

Where is the nearest bus stop?

No buses service the site, however Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway runs between the village of Boot and the main trainline on the coast.

Through West Lakes Adventure www.westlakesadventure.co.uk (nr Woolpack Inn) 2.4 miles.

Do you accept trailer tents/caravans/campervans?

Yes we can accept trailer tents by prior arrangement. Sorry we cannot accept caravans.

What places are there to visit nearby?

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, Boot Cornmill, Stanley Ghyll Force, Hardkott Roman Fort, Wastwater, Hardknott & Wrynose pass (towards Little Langdale, Coniston, Hawkshead, Ambleside), Muncaster Castle. A base from which to climb Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain.

Which is the nearest lake?

Wastwater (9.7 miles).

What beaches are there to visit nearby?

Drigg and Seascale (10 miles), Silecroft (17 miles), St Bees heritage coast (22 miles).

Can I have a fire or barbecue?

Wood fires and fire pits are not allowed but you can burn charcoal in BBQs raised off the ground.

Can under 18s stay at the site?

Under 18’s are welcome when accompanied by an adult.

Do I have to pay for the showers?

No, hot showers are included in your camping fee.

Can I park my car by my tent?

Cars can be parked next to some of the pitches but not all – please enquire when booking if you would like this.

Do I have to be a member of the National Trust to stay with you?

No – everyone is welcome.
