Here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions about Eskdale Campsite.
We’ve recently taken over the running of Eskdale Campsite. If you’ve camped at Eskdale in the past, you’ll be pleased to know that we intend to run the site along similar lines to the previous owners. There may be some small tweaks to things like arrival times as we are settling our new team into their roles. Please check back here for any updates.
Where is the nearest food shop?
There is a shop on site selling all the essential items. Local stores also available at Eskdale Green, Gosforth, Egremont.
What kinds of accommodation are on site?
As well as pitches for tents and campervans, there are 10 cosy pods at Eskdale as well as a camping barn (which sleeps 8). If you're interested in booking the barn, the price is £165 per night. More information will be on the website shortly.
Where is the nearest pub/restaurant?
There are pubs at Boot (Brookhouse Inn, Boot Inn, Woolpack) and a café at Dalegarth Station, a short walk from the campsite.
Where is the nearest cash machine?
Banks are available at; Lakeland Habit and Co Op, Gosforth 8 miles, Seascale (Nat West) 10 miles, Broughton-In-Furness (Barclays) 13 miles, Egremont (HSBC, Nat West) 16 miles.
Where is the nearest petrol station?
Holmrook (on A595 road) 6.8 miles.
Do you take bookings?
Yes, online, by phone or email.
Do you accept dogs?
Yes – maximum 2 per pitch.
Currently there is no public WIFI available whilst we are in the process of changing supplier from the previous owners of the site. We’re expecting this to be installed in the spring.

Where are some good walks for families?
A favourite lower level walk is the Eskdale trail which follows the river from St Catherine’s church where you can cross the river on stepping stones and head up to Stanley Force waterfalls. On a warm day cool off in one of the many rock pools.

Where is the nearest town or village?
The nearest village is Boot just a few minutes’ walk away. Nearest town Egremont (16 miles).
Where is the nearest bus stop?
No buses available.

Do you accept trailer tents/caravans/campervans?
Yes we can accept trailer tents by prior arrangement. Sorry we cannot accept caravans.
Do you have laundry facilities?
What places are there to visit nearby?
Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, Boot Cornmill, Stanley Ghyll Force, Hardkott Roman Fort, Wastwater, Hardknott & Wrynose pass (towards Little Langdale, Coniston, Hawkshead, Ambleside), Muncaster Castle. A base from which to climb Scafell Pike, England’s highest mountain.

Wastwater (9.7 miles).
What beaches are there to visit nearby?
Drigg and Seascale (10 miles), Silecroft (17 miles), St Bees heritage coast (22 miles).
Are you open all year round?
Eskdale Campsite is closed during January and February.
I am staying in a pod, what do I need to bring?
Bring all you need for camping, except the tent.
Can I have a fire or barbecue?
Raised BBQs off the ground are fine.
Can under 18s stay at the site?
Under 18’s are welcome when accompanied by an adult.
Do I have to pay for the showers?
No, hot showers are included in your camping fee.
Can I park my car by my tent?
Cars can be parked next to some of the pitches but not all – please enquire when booking if you would like this.
Do I have to be a member of the National Trust to stay with you?
No – everyone is welcome.
