Here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions about Hafod-y-Llan Campsite.

Where is the nearest town or village?

Beddgelert is 3.5 miles away. Porthmadog, which is larger with more facilities, is 8 miles away.

Where is the nearest food shop?

Beddgelert is 3.5 miles away; it has a post office, village shop and tourist information. 

Where is the nearest pub/restaurant?


Where is the nearest bank?

Beddgelert has a post office with cash withdrawal facilities. Porthmadog is 8 miles away which has a bank.

Do you take bookings?

No bookings taken (apart from groups). We recommend arriving early as pitches are available on a first come, first served basis.

Do you accept dogs?

No, because the campsite is near a farm with livestock.

Where are some good walks for families?

Gelert’s grave walk is an easy walk one mile long. There are many walking trails on the website. 

Where are some good mountain bike routes?

Beddgelert village and forest route can be found from grid ref: SH 573503. 

Can we go fishing nearby?

The River Glaslyn provides good opportunities for fishing for brown trout. The river is controlled by the Glaslyn Angling Association who can also advise on other fishing opportunities in the area.

Glan Morfa trout fishery just outside Porthmadog is a 5 acre lake is set in beautiful countryside and is kept well stocked with Rainbow Trout.

Where is the nearest bus stop?

There is a bus stop close to the campsite situated at the bottom of access road for campsite. 

Sherpa bus service for Snowdon (check Gwynedd county council website). 

Regular bus service to Beddgelert (check traveline Cymru website).  

Do you have laundry facilities?

Tumble driers only.

What places are there to visit nearby?

The campsite is based on the foothill of Snowdon which is perfect if you’re planning to walk up Snowdon; at the top of the campsite you can join the Watkin Path that will lead you to the summit. Please be aware that the Watkin Path is eight miles (there and back) with an ascent of 3,330 feet, therefore plan ahead and bring appropriate equipment

Further afield is Surf Snowdonia, Bounce Below, Sygyn copper mines and Beddgelert. Snowdonia National Park is a designated dark skies reserve.

Do you take credit card payments?

Pay as you stay, please pay by cash if you do not see a member of staff on arrival please pay in the honesty box. 

Are you open all year round?

Seasonal opening hours apply – April to October

Can I have a fire or barbecue?

There is a large campfire onsite and firewood can be purchased locally. BBQs are permitted; please raise BBQs of the ground. 

Can under 18s stay at the site?

Yes, however under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. 

Do I have to pay for the showers?


Can I park my car by my tent?

The car park next to the campsite, limited parking please car share where possible.
