Parking
The National Trust car park at Nantmor can get full very quickly during busy times, especially on weekends and during the spring and summer months. If the car park is full when you arrive, please consider parking in Beddgelert instead and starting the route from there. Thank you.

Start point

Stage 1
From the car park, head towards the gap in the wooden fence near the toilet block. Once through, turn left for Aberglaslyn and keep going on the path until you reach the river.
Stage 2
On reaching the river, go left down the steps, through the kissing gate and over the road bridge. Please take care and be aware of road traffic when going over the bridge. At the end of the bridge, turn left on the road.

Continue walking for a short distance along the road and after the bend to your right you'll see a National Trust sign for Coed Aberglaslyn and a footpath leading into the woods. Be aware of road traffic and cross safely. Once you are on the footpath going into the woods, keep following it until you reach the stream. Turn right at the point where it forks, and go up the steps. Follow the waymarkers up through the woods.

As you come to the end of this woodland section of the footpath, you'll see a stone wall with a gate. Go through the gate and onto Bryn Du. Follow the path which takes you near the small tower on top of the hill. Here you can continue downwards on the main path, or you can stop a little while to check out the small tower.

Keep following the path for some distance until you reach a small gate similar to the one you came through earlier. Go through the gate and follow the path which passes a ruined building. Go over the stile, turn left along the top of the field and follow the path down towards the narrow gauge railway crossing.

Take care when crossing - the Welsh Highland Railway service travels along this route. Once across, you'll have to cross the road to reach the gate on the opposite side. Lookout for road traffic and cross safely. Once you've crossed the road, go through the smaller black gate and follow the track towards the small wooden gate ahead of you.
Stage 7
Go through the gate and take the left fork to Gelert's grave and sculpture. Continue on the path towards Beddgelert.

Once you've crossed the bridge, turn right to follow the fisherman's path downstream and towards another railway crossing. After crossing safely, the path will then take you along the side of the Aberglaslyn gorge. Great care should be taken when negotiating this part of the path, especially the stone buttress above the river. Keep going until you approach the same kissing gate you went through at the start, but keep left, go up the steps and stay on the path into the woods until you get back to the car park.
