Wicken Fen Wild Camping National Nature Reserve FAQ’s
Here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions about Wicken Fen campsite and National Nature Reserve.
Can I park my car at the site?
There is no parking in the camping area. There is a drop-off point, where you can leave your luggage. The closest place to park is at Anglesey Abbey (2 miles away), parking is free however, please contact the property before arriving to arrange access.
What do we need to take with us to the site?
Guests will need to bring their own water, and all camping equipment other than a tent. There is a lock up box in a barn nearby. This is can be used by groups who have food/kit dropped off before arrival (by prior arrangement only).
Where is the nearest town or village?
The small village of Lode is 3 miles. Bottisham is 4 miles.
Where is the nearest food shop?
Bottisham has a local shop and Burwell is also nearby and has a Co-op store. Lode has a post office with the basics (3 miles).
Where is the nearest pub/restaurant?
Where is the nearest bank?
Barclays Bank can be found in Burwell 8 miles away.
Do you take bookings?
Yes, the camp site is only available by booking in advance; bookings can be made via email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Are there showers and toilets?
There are no showers but there is a compost toilet.
Do you accept dogs?
Yes, dogs must be well behaved and on leads at all times.
Where are some good walks for families?
The Lodes Way (Route 11 cycle route) and Fen Rivers Way along the Cam.
Where is the nearest bus stop?
The No. 10 bus service between Cambridge and Newmarket passes Anglesey Abbey. The service runs hourly Monday to Saturday. Alight at the crossroads in Lode, it is then a 2 mile walk to the site.
What places are there to visit nearby?
Wicken Fen nature reserve, Ickworth, Houghton Mill and Waterclose Meadows, Anglesey Abbey, Gardens and Lode Mill.
Do you take credit card payments?
Yes, card payment can be taken over the phone.
Are you open all year round?
Can I have a fire or barbecue?
Yes, there is a designated area for a campfire, please bring your own firewood.
BBQs are not permitted.
Can under 18s stay at the site?
Under 18s are only allowed to stay on site when accompanied by a responsible adult. Bookings are only taken from an adult. We ask that you are respectful and keep noise to a minimum.
