Glendurgan beach cleans

Children combing for litter at Grebe beach

We can all play our part in looking after the countryside by taking our litter home and disposing of it responsibly. But sometimes, even when we do our best, stormy weather can wash up marine debris and we all need to do our bit to keep this beautiful area clean.

Beach clean events offer the perfect opportunity to soak in fantastic views along the North Helford and take in plenty of fresh air whilst helping to look after this special place. People of all ages can get involved and it’s an opportunity for families and groups to participate in a community activity together. We welcome dogs and children to all our beach cleans, children need to be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times and we ask that dogs are kept on a lead.

The terrain along the route to the beaches can be uneven and includes steps and some steep slopes so moderate fitness is required. The walk is around 2 miles long in total.

We meet for all beach cleans at Bosveal National Trust car park (TR11 5JR) and following a short safety briefing, set off along the woodland walk heading towards Grebe beach. We spend around 20-30 minutes combing the pebbly beach for any marine detritus or litter before following the coastline further along the river to Durgan beach. After a litter pick at Durgan we gather in the Fish Cellar and relax with complimentary tea, coffee and homemade cake from Glendurgan Tea-house.

You can help make a change by joining in with any one of these events. There’s no need to sign up in advance, just turn up at Bosveal car park at the designed start time where we’ll provide all the litter picking equipment you’ll need, such as gloves and litter pickers, and we have smaller sizes suitable for children too. If you have any of your own kit you’d like to bring along, please do so. The only equipment you need to provide is sensible shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather.

We look forward to seeing you at the next event!
