Volunteering at Glendurgan

Volunteer walk and talk at Glendurgan

Volunteers are the true fabric of the National Trust and the ever-growing volunteer team at Glendurgan play a huge part in caring for this special place and helping to tell its story.

How can you get involved?

There are various roles at Glendurgan which are detailed below, however this list isn’t exhaustive so if you’re interested in volunteering in another capacity please get in touch.

Family events and activities

There are all kinds of activities and workshops taking place for families and children throughout the year, and we’d like to offer more, however we need extra pairs of hands putting these together and delivering them. These activities include leading toddler walks and story-telling, helping us deliver our Cadbury Easter Egg Hunt by handing out trail sheets and chocolate, assisting children in making bird feeders and bug hotels and supervising a seed planting activity for families to take home.

Fish Cellar

The fish cellar in Durgan village is run by a team of over 40 enthusiastic volunteers on a rota basis, engaging with visitors who stop by for a chat, selling ice cream and raffle tickets, and maintaining the tea and coffee on offer for visitors to help themselves to. This role is customer facing role, helping tell Glendurgan’s and the North Helford’s story and generally welcoming anyone who chooses to visit.

If you’re green fingered and enjoy maintaining your own garden, there’s 35 acres of garden always needing to be tended to at Glendurgan. Although busy and physical work, the role is based in the beautiful 180 year old Quaker garden, working alongside the wider garden team.

Plant sales

The growing plant sales team are based in the plant centre next to Glendurgan’s shop and spend a few hours each week tidying, deadheading, weeding and watering the plants and arranging the gorgeous displays. This role is especially busy from March to August. Knowledge of plants and gardening is helpful but not essential.

Car park and reception

Glendurgan can be particularly busy during peak seasons so if you like to get stuck in with an enthusiastic and bustling team, and don’t mind being on your feet, you’ll fit right in with our reception and car park teams.
