Bringing a group to Goddards

Visitors tell us they enjoy the relaxed family feel when they visit. We’d love to welcome small groups to appreciate everything Goddards has to offer.

A refreshing break

Ideally located for transport links, or perhaps as a last pit stop before heading out of town after a busy day exploring York, drop in for the popular tiered afternoon tea in the luxurious drawing room.

Take a seat in the Terry family dining room for a spot of light lunch, enjoy a refreshing drink, or treat yourself to one of our home-made specialties, and then finish off with our signature chocolate orange cake.

If the sun is shining you could make the most of it and enjoy a G&T on the wonderful terrace, admiring the view of the gardens just as the Terry family once did.

We can provide a bespoke food and beverage service for smaller events or if suitable reserve a table, whether you’re celebrating a birthday or a day out with friends and family. Please contact the food and beverage team or call 01904 771930 ahead of your visit.

Explore the gardens

If gardens are more your groups calling, take some time to discover the four acres of garden rooms and explore the private haven of the Terry family nestled in the centre of York. As you approach the house and look down across the lawn, the iconic clock tower at Terry’s chocolate works can be seen over what is now the County Stand at York Racecourse, linking the Terry home to the heart of the Terry chocolate empire.

The gardens are divided into rooms in a feature of its Arts and Crafts style. The idea behind the rooms was that of a continuation of the house extending beyond the walls and into the garden. If you stand on the terrace and look down on the garden you can see how hedges and shrubs provide the structure to these so called rooms, including a bowling green, tennis lawn, wildlife pond and rockery.

Chocolate heritage in York

Goddards is at the heart of York's chocolate heritage, home to the Chocolate Orange and Terry’s All Gold. Wander the house and garden and get an understanding of life in Noel Terry's family home through memories of what it was like to grow up across the racecourse from the Terry factory. Visit the recently extended display rooms, sit at the desk of the Terry partners and find out more about the staff from the managing directors to the packers on the factory floor.

" ...thank you for organizing our very successful visit. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time and...afternoon tea in the garden just finished the day off."
