About Bolt CottageA cosy stone cottage in the beautiful grounds of the Wallington estate, perfect for walkers, cyclists and wildlife lovers.
Explore the stunning Northumberland landscape as well as enjoying out of hours access to the grounds at Wallington when you stay at Bolt Cottage. Nestled in the heart of the estate, the cottage is surrounded by trees that are home to a population of around 150 red squirrels with their own Red Squirrel Ranger.
This traditional stone-built cottage has two bedrooms upstairs (one double and one twin) and makes the perfect bolthole for couples or small families escaping the bustle of everyday life to the peace, quiet and wildlife-filled magic of Wallington. Downstairs you’ll find the living room with wood burner, kitchen, utility room and the bathroom. Your four-legged friend can also join in with all your adventures as the cottage welcomes one dog.
With the whole of the estate (over 13,000 acres) on your doorstep when you stay at Bolt Cottage, take some time out to discover Wallington’s outdoor highlights which include walking trails, the family friendly Dragon cycle trail (with bike hire available) and the West Wood play areas. Look out for wildlife too, from otters and native crayfish in the river to the red squirrels in the trees. Inside the Estate's house, don’t miss the dolls’ house room and quirky Cabinet of Curiosities.
You’ll find National Trust places Hadrian’s Wall, Lindisfarne Castle, Gibside and Cragside are all nearby and when you stay with us, or walk the glorious Northumberland countryside and coast, like the stunning beach at Druridge Bay. When you’ve had your fill of countryside, then head to the historic market town of Hexham, just over 16 miles away with its pretty shops and restaurants, or hop across to the bustling city of Newcastle to explore its attractions.
