About The Gaffer

A traditional Cornish village stay alongside a winding river that winds down to the harbour.

Be part of Boscastle’ s history when you stay at The Gaffer. The white-washed cottage, which is named after a traditional fishing boat, used to be a pilchard cellar. Its garden also sits atop a limekiln nodding to its industrial past.

It sits on the banks of a winding river that runs down to the harbour and houses three holiday homes – The Gaffer occupying part of the first floor. It’s a bright and airy, one-bedroom apartment with elegant interiors. There’s an open-plan bedroom, sitting and dining area and a separate kitchen and bathroom. From here you’ll be able to wander around the old pubs and crooked cottages of Boscastle.

You can also loop onto the South West Coast Path where the cliffs of Penally Point and the wooded Valency Valley, rich in Thomas Hardy history, unravel. The closest sandy beach is Trebarwith Strand, which is just five miles to the south west.

About the Acorn rating

We have applied a 1-5 acorn rating to each cottage to be used only as a guide that covers location, style of interior and facilities you may be looking for. The range runs from 1 Acorn at a more basic level such as Bird How which due to its stunning yet remote location doesn’t have a caretaker through to 5 Acorns at the highest level – such as Shute Barton.

Cottage pricing is not judged on the Acorn rating alone and as all our cottages are of an individual nature we recommend that all factors are considered when making your choice.
