    • A Georgian building next to the famous Bosherston Lily Ponds at Stackpole

    • In walking distance of award-winning golden sandy beaches

    • At the heart of a varied landscape, with plenty of outdoor activities, from sea kayaking to coastal walking and a mountain bike trail

Stackpole once had a great mansion, which was sadly demolished before the estate was passed on to the National Trust. Cawdor is named after the family that built the grand house and is part of one of the last original buildings. It was once the laundry and servants' quarters, and they used to keep game in the adjoining structure. Its Georgian heritage can be felt in its high ceilings, original staircase and elaborate chimney.

The 3,000-acre estate stretches to the coast. Miles of footpaths will lead you over lakes and through woodland to join the Pembrokeshire Coast Path; a picturesque route of cliffs, sand dunes and tiny coves. There are two golden beaches on the estate, popular with surfers, about a two-mile walk from Cawdor. You can book a guided sea kayaking or coasteering session from Stackpole's sheltered quay, which also has a tea-room.

Cawdor is in the treeline at the edge of Stackpole's Lily Ponds, which are at peak bloom in June and July. You'll be able to explore the estate in the quieter hours for the chance to spot otters, kingfishers and tawny owls. Great colonies of bats live here and you might see them flying from Cawdor's bat roost. Your holiday will contribute to the care of this Grade I listed landscape and important nature reserve.

There are 14 other cottages on the Stackpole estate, plus four bunkhouses. Multiple cottages and bunkhouses can be booked together for a group stay.
