About Clearing Tennyson’s viewLook after one of Europe's most vulnerable habitats, removing pine and birch scrub from the expansive heathland at Black Down.
Come and join us at Black Down so you too can say, as the poet Tennyson did, 'you came and looked and loved the view, long known and loved by me, green Sussex fading into blue, with one grey glimpse of sea'. You’ll be clearing birch and pine scrub to bring life to the heaths and tackling rhododendron to restore our woods. You’ll also be carrying out construction and maintenance tasks across the estate to help look after and care for this wonderful corner of the South Downs National Park.
About the accommodation
Situated in a lovely rural location, but near the small market town of Haslemere, the bunkhouse is a countryside retreat on the edge of the South Downs National Park, with easy access to railway and road links to London and beyond. Situated on Swan Barn Farm surrounded by ancient meadows, woodland and orchards, this recently refurbished building has a well-equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge complete with a wood-burning stove. There is plenty of outdoor space to sit and relax in as well as a barbecue area.
