About Dales ranger

Join our Rangers in the glorious Yorkshire Dales and help with a variety of tasks to get stuck into.

This holiday is specifically aimed at physically able  people with learning disabilities working alongside a  carer/family member who comes with them.  We will carry out a mix of conservation activities. The work will require  physical ability to move around the site and may be  physically demanding. We adapt tasks to suit ability,  with everyone working at their own pace. If you are  considering this holiday please call Roisin on 01729  830416 for a chat before booking. The cost of this  holiday includes the participant and their carer/family member.

About the accommodation

The accommodation is located on the edge of the village of Buckden and at the foot of 702m high Buckden Pike. It is a 200-year-old converted barn with a large living room with open views up to Wharfedale into Langstrothdale. It is an ‘upside down’ building with the living room, kitchen and one bunk room on the first floor and two bunk rooms and bathroom on the ground floor. Each bunk room has two bunk beds. One is en suite, the other two share a bathroom/toilet. Town Head Bunkhouse does not have a garden next to the building but there is a National Trust picnic area with a built-in barbecue just 100 yards away.

Facilities: drying room, open fire/woodburner, washing machine, tumble dryer.

Bedding: pillows and mattress cover provided.

Notes for guests

What to bring: Bedding or sleeping bag required. Weather can be very changeable so clothing for conditions is required.  Extra layers recommended as it can be cold.

A standard kit list can be found on our Essential Information page.

The participant and their carer or family member are expected to work together and as part of the group so everyone will need to bring the items listed in the kit list.

There is no mobile phone signal at Malham Tarn or Town Head Barn but a landline phone at bunk barn that can be used. There are limited village shops

The price of the holiday is the combined price for the participant and carer.
