Houghton Mill Flour Festival
Autumn is the season of harvest and home baking so there is no better time to explore the impressive 18th century water mill and to find out how our stoneground wholemeal flour is produced here. Visit during our Flour Festival in October and enjoy our brand-new trails, events and activities at Houghton Mill.
Hunt for baking treasure
Follow one of our brand-new, free trails around the Mill finding clues that reveal our favourite recipes for either scones or cookies. During half term if you complete our cookie trail you will be rewarded with a delicious freshly baked biscuit for your efforts!
Discover how you can turn flour into beautiful autumnal decorations at our free family craft event on Tuesday 22 October.
Houghton Mill Bake Off
Get your wooden spoons ready! As a celebration of our stoneground flour we're inviting you to show off your baking prowess.
Pop in to pick up a free bag of Houghton Mill flour and present your creation to our judge on Sunday 27 October. You can win a baking-themed prize and your recipe will be included in Houghton Mill's very own recipe book. Click here for how to join in and here for full Terms & Conditions for the competition.
If you prefer eating treats to baking them, why not join us on the day to view and even sample some of the entries?
Explore a traditional water mill
Every Sunday afternoon you can experience the sights, sounds and smells of a traditional working flour mill as we produce fresh flour using the 18th century mill’s machinery and production methods.
Look out for samples of our freshly baked soda bread to taste or pick up a bag of Houghton Mill flour and a recipe card so you can try baking your own treats at home.
Stop in at our tea room for a hot drink, warming seasonal soup or to treat yourself to one of our 'limited edition' scones that will be on offer during half term as we celebrate our Flour Festival. You may find one you've never had before!
Step outside to enjoy the changing Autumn colours along one of the many paths and waterways that lead from Houghton Mill. There are short strolls for little legs from the other side of the mill pond, or longer walks and cycle routes to the Hemingfords, Godmanchester and beyond for the more active.
Look out for our mini nature trail and some of our favourite ‘50 Things to do’ during the Autumn, from spotting funky fungi to making a wild crown. Or join us for our half term outdoor event and create an upcycled home for the birds in your garden this winter.
Houghton Mill will be open from 1-5pm on Monday 21 to Friday 25 October and from 11- 5pm at the weekends. For more information on each of our events please visit our What’s On pages.
