Houghton Mill Flour
Houghton Mill flour is high quality stone ground wholemeal flour milled on site using the same methods used over 150 years ago. Why not come and see the flour being milled for yourself or try baking with it using one of our delicious recipes?
Pure and simple
We source organic wheat and grind it using French Burr stones from the Marne Valley in Northern France. Nothing is added to the flour, or taken away, providing the flour with its rich, nutty taste and rustic texture.
Experience the milling process
On milling days you can experience the sights, sounds and smells of the historic Houghton Mill water mill as it would have run during its Victorian heyday. Amongst the clamour of the giant cogs, shuddering machinery and whirring mill stones, our volunteer millers and room guides will help bring to life the journey from grain to flour through the three floors of the mill.
Watch the giant water wheel turn, the grain pour into the millstones and the fresh flour fall into sacks to be hoisted off to the flour store or stitched into small bags of Houghton Mill flour ready to be sold.
Try Houghton Mill flour for yourself
Our freshly milled stone ground wholemeal flour is available to buy in the Mill, tea room or campsite shops for you to try using at home. Our flour is also used to bake the delicious scones and cakes in our tea room if you would like to sample it first.
