National Mills Weekend at Houghton Mill - 12 and 13 May

Come along to Houghton Mill and experience the golden age of milling as we celebrate our nation's milling heritage on National Mills weekend 12 and 13 May.

Meet our Millers

Come and meet our millers and special guest, Potto Brown, the local village philanthropist who famously ran the mill from 1822-62. Play with our Victorian toys - why not come dressed in Victorian style to add to the fun! From 11am to 4:30pm.

Watch the watermill in action

See the historic watermill in operation - the mill will be running on Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 1pm - 4.30pm, producing our own stoneground whole meal flour. Why not buy a bag or two to bake some tasty treats when you get home.

Take a flavour of Houghton Mill home

Have you tried baking with Houghton Mill flour? Our wholemeal flour is ground in the traditional way using French Burr Stones that give it the rich, nutty taste and rustic texture. Pick up a bag from our shop and try one of our recipes.

Meet Potto Brown

Meet Potto Brown, the Victorian philanthropist who took over Houghton Mill with his business parter Joseph Goodman in 1821. Potto founded local schools and a chapel, so after his death in 1871 this bronze bust was erected in the Houghton & Wyton village square. You can meet ‘Potto Brown’ at the mill this weekend as part of our Victorian celebrations for National Mills Weekend.
