Visiting with the family in May half term
This event for 2020 has been cancelled as part of the Coronavirus guidelines.
In May half-term, become a nature explorer at Ightham Mote by following our Lost Words trail. The trail is running from Saturday 23 May to Sunday 31 May 2020 and costs £2.50 (normal admission applies).
This half-term, as part of our Lost Words exhibition, explore the gardens to discover the collective nouns of some of our wildlife.
Pack a picnic and relax in the pleasure grounds, and go wild in our natural play area. The trail begins outside our shop taking you round the garden.
Saturday 23 May - Sunday 31 May 2020, 10am - 4pm.
If you finish the trail after 4pm, please collect your prize from the shop.
£2.50 per trail (includes a choice of prize at the end). Normal admission prices apply (National Trust members are admitted to the property free of charge).
Please pay at Visitor Reception when you arrive, and collect your trail sheet.
We recommend you bring a pencil with you.
What else can i do?
In the house, we have an I-Spy picture quiz for the younger ones, and then there's also our Look and Find quiz with a mix of I-Spy and questions for those that are a bit more curious.
At the end of the garden, our natural play area has a small stream, wooden stepping stones and a living willow tunnel. Don't forget to bring your wellies, and maybe even a towel and a change of clothes, as it can get very muddy!
On the estate, we have three way-marked circular walks, ranging from a relatively gentle stroll lasting 30 mins to a rather more hilly walk of about 1 hour. These make a perfect end to the day if you really want to tire the kids out before you go home.
Grab a bite to eat in the Mote Cafe. We serve hot meals from 12 noon to 2.30pm, or lunch-boxes, home-made scones, cakes and biscuits, which you can either eat in or take away. Want to beat the queues? Why not bring a picnic and eat it at the picnic tables near the car park, or relax in the North Pleasure Grounds beyond the North Lake. We do suggest you leave your picnic bags in your car before going into the house as there isn't room for rucksacks and large bags.
Pick up a souvenir from the shop, which has a range of products including Ightham Mote souvenirs, soft toys and pocket money toys.
Secondhand books can be found in Laundry Cottage, on the opposite side of the house to the shop. There's titles for children as well as adults. If you think your house is already bursting with books, why not bring some of the ones you no longer need with you so we can sell them in the bookshop and raise money for our conservation projects at Ightham Mote.
