Summer holidays family fun

The summer holidays are an exciting time, but keeping the family entertained during the long break can be challenging. Ightham Mote has activities running throughout the Kent school holidays to help you, so why not plan your visits now?

With a house, garden, natural play area, estate, trails and quizzes and special events, there's plenty of fun in store during the school holidays.

In the garden...

Opening at 10am, we have a free trail running in the garden - you won't need a trail sheet or pencil & paper for this one.

In the shade at the end of the garden, there's a natural play area for the children to burn off some energy, with a lovely picnic spot near by. We suggest you bring a towel, change of shoes/clothes as it can get muddy with the small stream running through it.

Please note: our garden is a historic garden, not a park. It is also part of the scheduled ancient monument. Please leave your scooters, bikes, balls, frisbees etc. at home.

In the house...

Opening at 11am, we have quizzes to keep the family entertained when you visit the house. There's two quizzes to choose from: an I-spy picture matching quiz, or a combination of I-spy and questions. Collect your quiz from the Conservatory, and when you return the clipboard and pencil at the end of your house visit, they'll give you a sticker.

If you have a pushchair, please leave this in our buggy park beside the Conservatory where you can pick up a baby-carrier or hipseat.

On most days, in the Squire's Room (downstairs, near the Library), there is an activity cart with some colouring or a simple craft.

Please note: Due to damage to our house and collection caused by backpacks / large bags, we ask you to leave your bulky items in your car, or there are a few lockers at the Conservatory. If you need to keep a rucksack with you, please carry it on your front.

On the estate...

Explore further afield on one of our three waymarked estate walks. On a hot summer's day, enjoy the shade on our black route through Scathes Wood. For a mix of woodland and countryside, follow our red route. Or, for the more adventurous, follow our green walk to the top of our estate with far-reaching views.
