Kedleston – long walk
Enjoy this picturesque walk which offers memorable views of the gardens and the back of the Hall, while giving a good perspective of the size of Kedleston Park.

Start point
Kedleston Hall car park, grid reference: SK310403
Step 1
Follow the fingerpost signs in the car park through the small metal gate and into the gardens. Turn right and follow the path past the Pleasure Grounds.
Step 2
Follow the path up the hill and walk through the tall metal 'House of Lords' gates, not the small metal gate on your left.
Step 3
Continue up the hill and keep an eye out for The Hermitage on your left. Once you get to the top of the hill take in the grand rural vista that awaits you.
Step 4
The path takes you into Priest Wood. Follow this path along the top of the boundary line (or Ha Ha) and into the woodlands around the edge of the park. Continue through the woodlands (look out for glimpses of the back of the Hall) until you skirt the other side of the parkland down to Upper Vicar Wood.
Step 5
Head downhill through the stretch of shaded woods. Continue until you reach the splash pool, at the end of the lakes. Look out for the kingfisher!
Step 6
Turn left and follow the path along the water’s edge. Look out for birds on the banks.
Step 7
Continue along the lower lakes which are classed as a reservoirs due to their size and contain white-clawed crayfish – a globally threatened species.
Step 8
As you walk alongside the lakes, spot the hall in the distance and the Robert Adam bridge. On the other side of the lake look out for the sulphur bath house within the golf course.
Step 9
Leave the water’s edge and head up towards the hall.
