With acres of beautiful parkland and woodland, we focus on the outdoor environment to engage pupils with their learning. Pupils can learn about the world around them by exploring our outdoor spaces.
Outdoor learning sessions
EYFS outdoor adventure - Join us for a day of learning especially for EYFS children. Investigate the garden for bugs, naming and identifying them and make a butterfly feeder to take home, 2-2.5hrs, £2.00 per child.
Let's investigate: Habitats - Upper KS1 and Lower KS2 - Science - Explore the woods of Knightshayes to discover the small worlds of mini-beasts. Hunt for bugs and find out why we need to protect their habitats as well as create a habitat of your own, 1.5 hrs, £1.50 per pupil.
Let's investigate: Growing - Upper KS1 and KS2 - Science - Explore the kitchen garden to learn how plants grow and what they need to survive. Create a seed head friend to take home, 1.5hrs, £1.50 per pupil.
Explore Knightshayes Court
New from 2015 are learning sessions based at our mansion. Discover the stories of the house and the people who lived and worked at Knightshayes.These sessions focus on the local history aspect of the new curriculum.
Local history sessions
Who were the Heathcoat Amorys?- Upper KS1 and KS2 - history- Discover all about the Heathcoat family, and how the first John Heathcoat was a pioneer in the lace industry. Learn all about this significant local man, and his family as well as how his work impacted Tiverton and the local area. There will also be the chance to handle and investigate antique lace and create a reverse lace design. 1.5 hours, £2.00 per pupil.
Be the designer - Upper Ks1 and Ks2 – history and art - Learn about the eccentric and talented designer William Burges. Tour Knightshayes Court to find his repeating pattern designs and discover their links with nature. Design and make a block print in the Burges style to take home, 1.5 hrs, £2.50 per pupil.
Victorian Christmas traditions - Upper Ks1 and Ks2 - Discover the Victorian origins of many of our Christmas traditions. Tour our beautifully decorated house to see how Christmas was celebrated in a grand country home. Make a Victorian inspired Christmas decoration to take home, 1.5hrs including tour, £2 per child.

Education group membership, currently between £41 and £101 per year depending on school size, entitles the school to free admission to the property and other National Trust places.
