October half-term and Halloween in and around East Sussex

There are spooky goings on at our places during October half-term and Halloween. All sort of family-friendly activities and events are on offer to keep your little ghouls busy. Discover more about myths and superstitions on the Black Cat trail at Bodiam Castle or find out all about the ghost of Scotney as part of the Children of Scotney trail. As the leaves start to colour, curl and drop, there is much fun to be had crunching along woodland walks and ticking off some of your 50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾.

The Hawkhurst gang were a notorious gang of smugglers who haunted the south eastern coast in the 1700s. Now they’re back and causing mischief in the garden at Bateman’s, where Rudyard Kipling wrote his famous poem ‘Smuggler’s Song’. Now you can follow the clues to find out what they’ve been up to, and claim your well-earned reward. Runs Saturday 20 to Sunday 28 Oct, 11am to 4pm.

Ever since the medieval era, people have been superstitious about black cats. This Hallowe’en, take on the challenge of finding cats hidden around Bodiam Castle to uncover the reason behind the myth, and claim your prize at the end. Trail runs Saturday 20 - Sunday 28 October, 11am-4pm.

Smallhythe Place 

Grab your broomsticks, hats and cloaks and get ready for an afternoon of spooky Arts and Crafts at Smallhythe Place. Join us from 1-3pm on Wednesday 24 October where we'll be making Hallowe'en crafts for you to decorate your home. Come dressed in your scariest Hallowe'en costume - the best dressed wins a prize.
