    • Experience living in a 19th century Arts and Crafts house

    • You'll have free entry to the main house and out-of-hours access to the hillside garden with an award-winning plant collection

    • Enjoy valley views and walks through the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

The Morris Apartment is a small, airy holiday home on the second floor of Standen House. The property was designed by Philip Webb, a close friend of William Morris, in 1891 and has been decorated with Morris & Co. textiles and wallpaper. Here you can experience how it felt to live in an Arts and Crafts house – a design movement that grew from a desire to revive traditional craftsmanship in response to Victorian industrialisation.

The Arts and Crafts philosophy extended to Standen's hillside garden, which was designed to look like a natural part of the landscape. While staying here, you'll have out-of-hours access to explore the 12-acre garden after other visitors have gone home.

For walkers, footpaths from the estate lead to High Weald woodland and Ashdown Forest. The Standen to Selsfield Common walk takes an 8.5-mile route along country paths, through wildlife-rich woodland and around heathland in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Nearby, the picturesque Tudor village of Chiddingstone has cafes, pretty pubs and the famous chiding stone. The South Downs National Park, Wakehurst Botanical Gardens and Nymans are also all within an hour's drive from the apartment. You'll have free entry to National Trust places during your stay, and the money you spend on your holiday will go towards caring for these special buildings and landscapes.
