Summer adventures in Cambridgeshire

Do you remember climbing your first tree, building your most extravagant den, or creating the longest daisy chain you could when you were a child? Such simple pleasures are among the activities you can enjoy with your children and grandchildren at our places in Cambridgeshire this summer.

Why not head to Hoe Fen Wildlife Discovery Area? The ideal place to meet up with friends for unlimited outdoor adventures, here you can spy on wildlife from the Wildlife Watch Hut, check on the guestin the Insect Hotel or climb to the top of our giant Lime Tree Lookout treehouse. During the school holidays this summer there's also be a range of activities to complete in our adventure passport.

Houghton Mill 

Houghton Mill on the banks of the Great Ouse is a great place to head with the kids. For those wanting to explore, you can do so by foot, bike and canoe, it's a great spot for a picnic too. Inside the mill we’ll be running Crafty Tuesdays throughout the school holidays, as well as hands-on baking days and family-friendly open air theatre.

We’ve a great summer programme lined up, including den building, pond dipping, minibeast hunting and campfire cooking. How about giving our geocaching trail a go? Wicken’s cycle hire will also be open, offering not just bikes, but seats and trailers for those with little legs. You can also tour the waterways on one of our daily boat trips.

Wimpole Estate 

There’s always something going on for families down at Wimpole Home Farm, especially as we approach harvest time in August. We'll even let your little ones get behind the wheel of our mini tractors. The woods are a great place for a spot of den building, where as young and old alike can enjoy a game of croquet or bowls in the garden.
