Winter Walks at Lyveden

A frosty view of Lyveden

Grab your winter woollies and head to Lyveden for a walk around the winter landscape. Take in the scenic views and wide open spaces as the fallen leaves open up Tresham's unfinished landscape garden and surrounding countryside. Don't forget to visit our Cottage Tearoom for some delicious seasonal treats.

Whether you are looking for a gentle stroll with family or a dog walk with a view, the grounds at Lyveden offer the perfect setting for a peaceful winter walk.

On crisp, frosty mornings, Lyveden transforms into a winter wonderland. Frost covers the spiral mounds and the water in the moat turns to ice. A covering of snow adds a magical touch to our peaceful garden landscape.

For an authentic Lyveden experience, start your walk at the orchard. You'll be able to glimpse the chimney line of Lyveden Manor in the valley below. Tresham intended for his guests to start their journey at the Manor and walk up through the garden to his garden lodge. The spiral mounds provide stunning panoramic views of the Northamptonshire countryside.

Winter is when most wildlife will head for bed for a few months to await the return of spring. Whilst most animals won't be seen at this time of year, see if you can spot any tell-tale tracks in the snow.

After a walk in the winter air, treat yourself to a hot drink and a bite to eat in our Cottage Tearoom. Warm up with a bowl of hearty soup or a mug of hot chocolate and a slice of homemade cake with a cosy seat beside the log-burners.

For those looking for a longer walk in the winter landscape, try the Lyveden Way. This circular walk is 9.7 miles but can easily be split into shorter walks. Why not amble over to Fermyn Woods, home to fallow deer? Or head east towards the picturesque village of Wadenhoe?
