We're offering our members the chance to step back in time with an exclusive competition. Get closer to the archaeological findings at Corfe Castle in Dorset with an expert tour, and explore the local area with a three-night stay at Vineyard Farm Cottage.

Walk in the footsteps of royals and revolutionaries at Corfe Castle in this members-only competition. Dating back to the Norman Conquest of 1066, Corfe Castle has been home to kings and gentry, as well as the scene of sieges and conflict. Enter before 11.59pm on 30 June 2024 for your chance to get an exclusive look in to the historic stories surrounding this medieval ruin.

The prize

The lucky winner of this member-exclusive competition will win:

  • A three-night stay at Vineyard Farm Cottage in Dorset from Friday 2 to Monday 5 August 2024. The cottage is located next to Corfe Castle and sleeps up to four people.
  • A closer look at the artefacts that have been found at Corfe Castle with one of our archaeologists on Saturday 3 August 2024.
  • A copy of Britain's Landmarks and Legends by Jo Woolf, which features the history of Corfe Castle.
  • A print from the book, signed by the illustrator Claire Harrup.
  • A £50 gift card to use in any National Trust shop or online.

Five runners-up will also each receive a copy of Britain's Landmarks and Legends.

To enter this members-only competition, please answer the following question:

What is the term for someone who digs up and studies artefacts?

Email your answer to takepart@nationaltrust.org.uk on or before 11.59pm on 30 June 2024, with the subject line 'National Trust Archaeology Competition'. Please include your full name, postcode, email address and membership number along with your answer.

To enter this competition, you must be a member and be available to attend the experience from Friday 2 to Monday 5 August 2024, including the archaeology experience on Saturday 3 August.
