Terms and conditions

• The competition

  1. The competition is open to National Trust members, excluding National Trust employees, only.

  2. All information made available to entrants as part of the process of entering the competition forms part of these terms and conditions.

  3. Email your answer labelled 'National Trust Foraging Competition' in the subject line to takepart@nationaltrust.org.uk on or before 23.59 on Sunday 27 October 2024 – the ‘Closing Date’. Please provide your answer to the competition question, full name, postcode, membership number and email address. Please refer to the ‘How to enter’ section for the question.

  4. There’s a limit of one entry per member. Any member who enters more than once will be disqualified.

  5. Entrants under the age of 18 must have permission from their parent or guardian and be accompanied by an adult if they win the first prize. The parent or guardian agrees to the terms and conditions on their behalf.

  6. One winner and five runners-up will be drawn at random from the entries with the correct answer. We’ll make all reasonable efforts to contact the winner and runners-up personally within five business days after the Closing Date, via the email address used to submit the competition entry.

  7. The first prize is a package and cannot be accepted in part only.

  8. The winner and runners-up are required to accept the prize by responding to the National Trust’s email within five business days.

  9. If the winner or a runner-up doesn’t accept the prize within five business days, we reserve the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant drawn from the correct entries that were received by the competition Closing Date.

  10. The first prize is described below. It’s available on the dates and at the times given and isn’t available on any other dates or at any other times.

  11. Travel to the location of the first prize, the National Trust holiday cottage Chirk Home Farm Cottage near Wrexham, isn’t included and the winner will need to make their own travel arrangements.

  12. We won’t be responsible for any transport or accommodation costs incurred in the acceptance or fulfilment of the prize.

  13. The first prize doesn’t include any extras.

  14. The runners-up prizes are described below.

  15. No cash alternative will be made. Prizes are non-transferable.

  16. The surname and county of the winner of the first prize and the runners-up will be published on our website or made available on request. If you object to your surname and county being published or made available or wish to reduce the amount of information to be published or made available, please state this in your entry email or contact us separately at takepart@nationaltrust.org.uk.

  17. Subject to the first prize-winner’s consent, we‘d aim to use the winner’s details and photograph in post-event publicity on our own National Trust channels, including the website and magazine.

  18. Responsibility can’t be taken for entries lost, delayed, mislaid or corrupted.

  19. Events may occur that may render the competition itself or the awarding of the prizes impossible due to reasons beyond our control, and accordingly we may vary or amend the promotion. We’ll do everything we reasonably can to ensure that winners receive prizes of at least equal value.

  20. Personal data supplied during the course of this competition will be processed as set out in our privacy policy.

  21. These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

  22. By entering the competition, you’re agreeing to these terms and conditions.

• The first prize

  1. A three-night stay at National Trust holiday cottage (ref 008012) from Friday 22 to Monday 25 November inclusive. Chirk Home Farm Cottage is a traditional stone cottage set in the grounds of Chirk Castle near Wrexham. It’s self-catering and sleeps four (two bedrooms), and up to two dogs. Further details are below.
  2. An exclusive foraging and campfire cooking experience with an expert in the grounds of Chirk Castle on Saturday 23 November 2024.
  3. A £500 Craghoppers voucher.
     • £500 value is based on the full retail price (before any discounts are applied).
     • Items are subject to availability.
     • There is no monetary value alternative.
  4. A copy of The First-Time Forager book by Andy Hamilton.
  5. A selection of products from the National Trust shop's autumn collection, including a ROKA rucksack, socks, a beanie hat, wrist warmers and a rug.
  6. A National Trust Gift Card to the value of £50. Gift card terms and conditions apply.
     

• Further details about the stay at Chirk Home Farm Cottage

  • Check in at Chirk Home Farm Cottage is from 16:00 on Friday 22 November and check out is before 10:00 on Monday 25 November 2024.
  • Chirk Home Farm Cottage sleeps four people across two bedrooms. The winner may bring up to three guests and two dogs with them, although please note that dogs are not permitted to come to the foraging experience. The number of guests stated must not be exceeded.

• Further details about the foraging and campfire cooking experience

  1. The winner can bring up to three guests with them to the foraging and campfire cooking experience. Dogs are not allowed at the foraging and campfire experience.
  2. The experience will take place in the grounds of Chirk Castle with a foraging expert from Woodland Classroom.
  3. The experience will take place at 09.30 on Saturday 23 November 2024 and will finish at around 15:00.

  5. Attendees should be dressed appropriately to be outdoors all day. A communal shelter will be available on the day in case of wet weather.

• The runner-up prizes

  Five runners-up will each receive a copy of The First-Time Forager book by Andy Hamilton.
