Visiting Mottisfont with your dog
We love dogs at Mottisfont, and they're welcome to explore most of the gardens and estate with you. We ask that you keep dogs on a short lead at all times while you visit, so that everyone can enjoy their time here. If you're a professional dog walker, you're welcome to make use of our countryside sites if you're licensed with us.
Where can my dog go?
Dogs are welcome in most of the gardens, on a short lead at all times.
They're also welcome on the wider estate, where they can roam more freely - although please be careful around others and be mindful that this is a wildlife conservation area. Why not visit nearby Spearywell wood, a 3 minute drive (15 minute walk) from the visitor car park?
Our visitor reception team can advise you the best places for dogs on arrival, and where you can find appropriate bins. There are maps on site which can help you, or, click on the following link to take a look before you visit: Download our map for dog walkers (PDF / 0.650390625MB) download
Where can't my dog go?
Assistance dogs only in the walled gardens, formal lawns behind and in front of the house, and indoor areas: the house, gallery and inside cafés. Please don't let your dog swim in the river, as this is an important conservation area.
What do I need to be aware of?
To make sure everyone has an enjoyable day, please follow our Canine Code:
- Take the lead: help reduce the chance of your pup disturbing wildlife by keeping them on a lead.
- Scoop that poop: bag it and bin it to keep your favourite places beautiful.
- Be on the ball: not everyone loves dogs, so keep them close by.
Facilities available for my dog
You'll find water bowls on the visitor reception terrace and by the outdoor seating area for the Coach House Café, in the Stableyard. There are dog bins in the car park near the entrance to visitor reception, behind the Stables, and at the top of the main pathway, towards the walled garden entrance.
