This short, accessible walk offers a fantastic introduction to the South West Coast Path for families and explorers with reduced mobility.
Learn about the Jurassic Coast
With a well maintained gravel path, Salcombe Hill allows easy access to a small section of the South West Coast Path where you can enjoy the fantastic views of the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site cliffs. Orientate yourself along the South West coast using the toposcope and enjoy a flask of tea whilst admiring the views from one of the cliff top benches.

Start:
Salcombe Hill car park (National Trust), grid ref: SY148889

Take the path from the car park past the National Trust orientation board. Follow the path to the left passing through the gap between oak leaf routed National Trust bollards towards to the coast. As the path forks continue forward until you reach the cliff top.

Follow the path around to the right towards the Salcombe Hill toposcope which identifies points of interest along the coast.
Toposcope
Orientate yourself with the toposcope which provides names and distances across the English Channel to landmarks along the coast.

Continue right along the path to one of the benches for a rest and to admire the fantastic views across Sidmouth, High Peak, Ladrum Bay and beyond.
Viewpoint
The views of the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site cliffs are not to be missed.

Continue along the path leading around to the right (ignoring the South West Coast Path turning to the left which leads down into Sidmouth) until you reach the fork in the path once more. Bear left and follow the path back to the car park
Salcombe Hill meadow
The meadow at Salcombe Hill is filled with beautiful wildflowers in the summer which attracts an array of colourful butterflies.
