Throw open the doors - it's 2019
The castle gates will open for the first time this year on Saturday 16 February 2019 at 11am with staff and volunteers ready to welcome you all. Over the winter we’ve undertaken the annual conservation deep clean so the Great Tower has been swept, wiped, hoovered and waxed from top to bottom. As well as working on maintenance projects in the castle grounds we have been preparing a yearlong programme of events and making ready some new outdoor play equipment to replace the giant sandpit.
Whether this is your first visit or your fourteenth there’s plenty to see and do this February. Why not pick up one of the multimedia guides that will transport you back to the castle's heyday in the 1440's, try your hand at the medieval games in the Parlour, explore all the nooks, crannies, chimneys and chambers in the 33.7m high tower and admire the beauty of Lincolnshire landscape when you get to the battlements.
For those bright young things or indeed those that are young at heart, why not kick start the half-term holidays by ticking off some of the 50 things to do before you're 11 ¾ or take a children's trail sheet to explore the castle and get rewarded with a prize on completion (£2 per trail)
Don’t forget to have a wander over the historic bridges and around the castle grounds. Spot the lumps and bumps of buildings long gone and reward your efforts with a hot drink from the Guardhouse. There is also a second-hand bookshop to peruse located in the Guardhouse to find your next new read (all money raised in the bookshop goes into the conservation works to protect the brick castle for years to come).
The Castle is open seven days a week between 11am-5pm until Sun 3 November.
