February half term at The Weir
There are plenty of things to see and do at The Weir Garden this February half term. Why not pull on your wellies and get exploring in the great outdoors?
From mid-January through to the end of February the riverside garden is scattered with snowdrops. Many different varieties grow at The Weir and both children and adults love to spot the different types. There’s plenty of bird life to spot in the garden too and on the river where many types of passing waterfowl glide through. Mallards and mute swans are common visitors at The Weir but also keeps your eyes peeled for Mandarins, Pochards, Teal and Wigeon.
Linking to the wildlife in the garden, there will be a family trail to complete over Half term. Children can learn how the nature in the garden prepares for spring with a ‘Wake up wildlife’ trail sheet for £2.50 with a prize at the end. February Half term is also an excellent chance to try out some '50 Things' activities, ask a member of staff upon arrival and recieve a free sheet with stickers as well as some fun activity ideas to try in the garden.
The natural play area near the lawn provides a space for children to climb, explore and swing from trees. Parents can take a seat on one of the picnic benches as they watch on. You’re welcome to bring a picnic and flask year-round and don’t forget the little tea-tent at the top of the garden supplies take away tea, coffee and cake.
Finally, top off your visit with a trip to the walled garden and find out how the garden team are preparing for the warmer spring days, there’s always lots to do but they’re always happy to stop for a chat. You can also find out about our current restoration project ‘Rooting for Restoration’ as we continue to fundraise to repair the beautiful Foster & Pearson glasshouse. Why not reconnect the family with nature this February? It’s something everyone can benefit from.
