History buffs

Budding historians can follow in the footsteps of the Fetherstonhaugh family and see what life in an elegant Georgian mansion would have been like almost 300 years ago, then descend below stairs to experience the world of the servants.

The Servants' Quarters at Uppark

Contrasting with the grandeur and elegance of the first floor rooms, the servants' quarters in the basement offer a glimpse of a life spent 'below stairs.'

See the Dolls' House

While you're below stairs, make sure you take some time to marvel at Uppark's famous 18th century dolls' house, one of the most historically important in the country.

Explore the tunnels

From the servants' quarters, adventurers young and old can lead the family through the subterranean tunnels. They would have been used by the servants to pass unseen between the house and what was once the kitchen, but today, they provide a convenient rain-free route to our café.

The tunnels allow servants access to the house from the service blocks.

Take a break

Our café opens from 10am daily with a menu that changes every two weeks, not to mention an always tempting array of cakes, scones and other goodies. There's a kids' menu and even a packed lunch that can be enjoyed in the café or taken with you as you explore the grounds.

Pack a picnic

Make the most of the dappled shade and benches in our picnic area not far from the car park, or bring a blanket and spread out in one of our many lawned areas.

Run through the meadow

Burn off any excess energy with a run around the South Meadow and our network of mown paths, or spread out on the south lawn and enjoy the views while the little ones roll down the gently sloping banks. We even have a toy box full of games for you to delve into and borrow whatever takes your fancy.
