Travel by bus

  • Antony - From Plymouth or Cremyll, catch the Go Cornwall Bus service 70/70B and alight at Trevicthick Avenue (0.8 miles)
  • Boscastle - Catch the Go Cornwall Bus service number 95 from (Bude to Wadebridge). The bus stops by the Cornwall Council car park and toilets, a short walk from the harbour and South West Coast Path.
  • Bosveal - From Falmouth. Catch a bus from The Moor to Glendurgan Garden (about 30mins). Service 35 from Falmouth to Helston (Direction Helford Passage) via Gweek and Constantine (please note, this bus does not run on a Sunday). From Helston - catch a bus from Blue Anchor Inn, Coinagehall Street Helston to Glendurgan Garden (about 55 minutes). Service 35 from Helston to Falmouth (please note, this bus does not run on a Sunday). The bus drops off outside the entrance to Glendurgan Garden. Leave the bus stop and cross over the road, if coming from Falmouth, go through the gate and turn right along path. At the end of the path cross back over the road and follow the road signposted Durgan, continue along this road until you see the entrance to Bosveal car park on the right.
  • Botallack - A service runs from Penzance hourly. Alight in Botallack village by the Queens Arms and from the bus stop head north through the village to the road junction, then follow the track past Botallack Manor to the Count House.
  • Cadsonbury - Take the Go Cornwall Bus service 74 (Callington to Liskeard via Pensilvia) stops at Newbridge, please request the bus driver to stop at Newbridge when boarding. Cadsonbury is about a 15 minute walk from the bus stop. Cross the bridge over the River Lynher and follow the narrow lane on the left hand side to reach the car park and start of walks.
  • Carnewas at Bedruthan - Catch the Go Cornwall bus service 56 (Newquay to Padstow). The bus stop is at the end of the road that accesses the National Trust car park and a 273 yards (250m) walk.
  • Cotehele - Take the Go Cornwall Bus service 79/79A from Callington/Tavistock and stops at the bus stop on Calstock Quay. Once at Calstock, Cotehele is a lovely 1½ mile walk along the River Tamar and up a steep hill through the woods. Follow the signs and bring a torch for late afternoons in the winter months.
  • Cotehele Mill - Take the Go Cornwall Bus service 79/79A from Callington/Tavistock and stops at the bus stop on Calstock Quay. Once at Calstock, Cotehele Mill is a lovely 2½ mile walk along the River Tamar, up a steep hill through the woods then down to the quay along the Morden Stream. Follow the signs to Cotehele and then to Cotehele Mill. Bring a torch for late afternoons in the winter months.
  • Crantock Beach - Take the Go Cornwall Bus service number 85/85A between Newquay and Truro, alight by the round garden in Crantock Village, the beach is approximately half a mile from the bus stop.
  • East Pool Mine - Frequent services from Penzance, St Ives amd Truro. Alight at the bus stop at Morrisons on Agar Road. Walk to the back of the Morrisons carpark where there is a black feather flag. The entrance to East Pool is down the path and through the green gate.
  • Glendurgan Garden - From Falmouth - catch a bus from The Moor to Glendurgan Garden (about 30 minutes). Service 35 from Falmouth to Helston (Direction Helford Passage) via Gweek and Constantine (please note, this bus does not run on a Sunday). From Helston - catch a bus from Blue Anchor Inn, Coinagehall Street Helston to Glendurgan Garden (about 55 minutes).   • Holywell - Catch Go Cornwall Bus service number 85/85A from Newquay to Truro, via Crantock. The bus stops at Tregurth Inn, a 300 yards (275m) walk from the beach.
  • Kynance Cove - Catch the First Bus service number 34 from Helston to Lizard, alight at Lizard Village green and Kynance Cove is approximately 2 miles.
  • Levant Mine and Beam Bridge - An hourly service runs from Penzanze to Trewellard and the stop is 1 mile from Levant Mine and Beam Bridge.
  • Lizard Point - Catch the First Bus service number 34 from Helston to Lizard, alight at the bus stop in the village and Lizard Point is ½ mile.
  • Morwenstow - Catch the Go Cornwall Bus service number 217 from Bude to Gooseham via Morwenstow. The bus stops at Crosstown, a 344 yard (315m) walk to the car park and church at Morwenstow. Follow the right hand fork in the road with a sign directing towards Rectory Farm.
  • Pentire - Catch the Go Cornwall Bus service number 96 from Wadebridge to Bodmin. The bus stops at the beach in Polzeath. Pentire is about a 20 minute walk across or above Polzeath beach in the direction of New Polzeath.
  • Porthcurno - From April to September, catch the hourly First Kernow Bus service "Land's End Coaster" from Penzance bus station, alighting after 45 minutes at Porthcurno Car Park bus stop. Porthcurno Beach and coastpath is 0.3 miles from the bus stop. The footpath to the beach is on uneven ground and beach access is down sandy steps, not suitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters. From October to March inclusive the Land's End Coaster operates a much reduced service from Penzance Bus Station, serving Porthcurno approximately every 2 hours.
  • St Anthony Head - Can be accessed by regular buses from Truro and St Austell to St Mawes. Take the passenger ferry from St Mawes to Place (between April and October) and walk along the coast or cut up past St Anthony Church for 25 minutes. Alternatively, you can take the bus to Gerrans/Portscatho and walk along the coast path for 55 minutes.
  • St Michaels Mount - The U4 bus service goes towards Marazion for St Michael's Mount every hour all year round. The journey takes 12 minutes, alight at Marazion Square. The causeway/boats are a minutes walk from the bus stop. Between April and September only, the anti clockwise Land's End Coaster service also serves the same bus stop hourly.
  • Tintagel Old Post Office - Bus service 95. The bus stops are outside Tintagel Hardware store for eastbound buses heading towards Boscastle and Bude, and on the opposite side of the road next to the visitor centre (not National Trust) for buses heading west towards Camelford and Wadebridge.
  • Trelissick - Take the bus number 493 from Truro, Lemon Quay to Feock via Trelissick Garden. Please note the service only runs Monday to Saturday.
  • Trengwainton Garden - Take the number Firs Kernow bus service 19 from Penzance bus station, alight at the Heather Close bus stop, walk up the road and turn left into Boscathnoe Lane. Walk until you reach the white garden gates. It is a distance of 0.4 miles(approx 10 minutes level walk on pavements) from the bus stop to the garden reception. To return to Penzance bus station, ignore the redundant bus stop opposite the garden gates and return to the same stop previously alighted from at Heather Close. The 19 route is circular and will take 20 minutes to return to Penzance Bus Station, via Madron.
  • Trerice - Fowey via St Austell to Newquay, alight Kestle Mill (please request stop), ¾ mile. Route 25.

Nearby railway stations

  • Antony - The nearest railway station is Devonport (4.5 miles) in Plymouth. Walk to Ferry Road, approximately 0.4 mile walk, and catch Go Cornwall Bus service 70/70B to Trevithick Avenue. Approximately 0.8 mile walk from bus stop.
  • Bosveal - The nearest station is the Falmouth Town Station. From the station walk to the Moor (about 17 minutes); head east toward Avenue Road; turn left onto Avenue Road; at the roundabout turn left onto Arwenack Street which leads onto Church Street and then Market Street; turn left onto Killigrew Street; the street soon opens out to Falmouth Moor. Buses leave from just beyond the large paved area on the right. Catch a bus from The Moor to Glendurgan Garden (about 30 minutes). Service 35 from Falmouth to Helston (Direction Helford Passage) via Gweek and Constantine. The bus drops off outside the entrance to Glendurgan Garden. Leave the bus stop and cross over the road, go through the gate and turn right along path. At the end of the path cross back over the road and follow the road signposted Durgan, continue along this road until you see the entrance to Bosveal car park on the right.
  • Cotehele - Take the Tamar Valley Line from Plymouth to Calstock station. From there it's a lovely 1½ mile walk, signposted from the station, along the River Tamar and up a steep hill through the woods. Follow the signs. Bring a torch for late afternoons in the winter months.
  • Cotehele Mill - Take the Tamar Valley Line from Plymouth to Calstock station. From there it's a lovely 2½ mile walk, signposted from the station, along the River Tamar, up a steep hill through the woods then down to the quay along the Morden Stream. Follow the signs to Cotehele and then to Cotehele Mill. Bring a torch for late afternoons in the winter months.
  • Crantock Beach - The nearest station is Newquay (4 miles), taxi services are available at this station.
  • East Pool Mine - The nearest stations are Redruth (2 miles) and Camborne (2 miles). It is worth noting there are no taxi services at either railway station. Frequent services from Penzance, St Ives and Truro pass both stations.
  • Glendurgan Garden - The nearest station is the Falmouth Town Station. From the station walk to the Moor (about 17 minutes); head east toward Avenue Road; turn left onto Avenue Road; at the roundabout turn left onto Arwenack Street which leads onto Church Street and then Market Street; turn left onto Killigrew Street; the street soon opens out to Falmouth Moor.   • Lanhydrock - Bodmin Parkway is the closest station (1¾ mile), taxi services are available at this station. You can walk for 1 3/4 mile from the station car park via original carriage-drive, the route is signposted.
  • St Michaels Mount - Penzance is the closest station (3 miles). There are taxi services available at this station. Penzance bus station is a minute walk away, from there take the U4 bus service that goes towards Marazion for St Michael's Mount every hour all year round. The journey takes 12 minutes, alight at Marazion Square. The causeway/boats are a minutes walk from the bus stop.
  • Trengwainton Garden - Penzance is the closest station (2 miles). There are taxi services available at this station.
  • Trerice - Quintrell Downs is the closest station (1½ miles). It is worth noting there are no taxi services available.

Cycle routes

The National Cycle Network (NCN) is a UK-wide network of signed paths and routes, ideal if you’re looking to reach places by bike.

  • Antony - NCN27 is 2 miles away.
  • Boscastle - NCN3 is 5 miles (8km) away, at Collamoor Head on the A39.
  • Bosveal - Is ½ mile south-west of Mawnan Smith, on the Helford Passage. Once you have left Mawnan Smith take the first left, this road is marked Durgan, continue along this road until you see the entrance to Bosveal car park on the right.
  • Botallack - NCN3 runs to Lands End, from there it is approximately 7 miles via the A30, then B3306 or Penzance and from there it is approximately 7 miles via the A3071. Please note these routes include being on narrow roads with frequent traffic.
  • Carne & Pendower - NCN3 connects Portloe and Pendower with the King Harry Ferry (see sustrans for details).
  • Carnewas at Bedruthan - NCN323 is 3 miles (4.8km) away at Porthcothan (along the B3276).
  • East Pool Mine - NCN3 is within 1/2 mile.
  • Glendurgan Garden - is within 1/2 mile of Mawnan Smith, on the Helford Passage (sustrans route). The entrance to Glendurgan Garden is on the left, and you can park your bike in the racks by the garden entrance.
  • Godrevy - NCN3 runs through nearby Hayle and Camborne.
  • Lanhydrock - NCN3 runs past the entrance.
  • Levant Mine and Beam Bridge - NCN3 runs to Lands End, from there it is approximately 8 miles via the A30, then B3306 or Penzance and from there it is approximately 8 miles via the A3071. Please note these routes include being on narrow roads with frequent traffic.
  • Penrose - From Porthleven take the coast road along to Penrose Hill, there are rides throughout the parkland and woodlands at Penrose.
  • St Anthony Head - NCN3 connects Portloe and Pendower with the King Harry Ferry.
  • St Michaels Mount - NCN3 is within 1 mile. From 1st April - 31st October when the tide is high access to the island is via boat
  • Trelissick - Is on NCN3.
  • Trengwainton Garden - NCN3 is 2½ miles. You can park your bike in the bike rack by visitor reception.
  • Trerice - Is on NCN32.

Arriving by foot

The South West Coast Path (SWCP) is the longest waymarked long-distance footpath and a National Trail. It stretches 630 miles, running from Minehead in Somerset, along the coasts of Devon and Cornwall, to Poole Harbour in Dorset.

  • Boscastle - The SWCP passes through Boscastle harbour.
  • Bosveal - Take the SWCP from Falmouth (starting at the seafront at Gyllyngvase beach) to Durgan village. You can enter the bottom of the garden from the village. The total distance is 5.9 miles and takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes.
  • Botallack - The SWCP runs past Botallack Count House, located near the village of Botallack.
  • Cape Cornwall - Is on the SWCP.
  • Carne & Pendower - The SWCP runs past both beaches.
  • Carnewas at Bedruthan - 3/4 mile of the SWCP runs through Carnewas at Bedruthan.
  • Cotehele - Cotehele is a lovely 1½ mile walk from Calstock along the River Tamar and up a steep hill through the woods. Follow the signs and bring a torch for late afternoons in the winter months.
  • Cotehele Mill - Cotehele Mill is a lovely 2½ mile walk from Calstock along the River Tamar, up a steep hill through the woods then down to the quay along the Morden Stream. Follow the signs to Cotehele and then to Cotehele Mill.
  • Crantock Beach - On the SWCP, which runs through the National Trust car park and across Rushey Green (at the back of the beach and dunes).
  • Duckpool - The SWCP runs through the site.
  • Glendurgan Garden - Take the SWCP from Falmouth (starting at the seafront at Gyllyngvase beach) to Durgan village. You can enter the bottom of the garden from the village. The total distance is 5.9 miles and takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes.
  • Godolphin -
  • Godrevy - Footpath routes via the SWCP and footpath linked with Tehidy Country Park. From Gwithian Village, walk through St Gothians' nature reserve.
  • Gunwalloe - On the SWCP between Poldhu and Penrose (approximately 3 miles from Porthleven).
  • Holywell - On the SWCP, which runs across the dune system and back of the beach
  • Kynance Cove - is on the SWCP, approximately a 2½ mile walk from Lizard Point.
  • Lanhydrock - Is 1¾ miles from Bodmin Parkway via original carriage-drive to house, and is signposted in station car park. From Bodmin town centre, it is 2 ½ miles to the Park Café.
  • Lansallos - On the SWCP, 45 minutes from Polperro and 1 hour from Polruan.
  • Levant Mine and Beam Bridge - The SWCP passes the entrance, located between Botallack and Geevor Mines, near Trewellard.
  • Lizard Point - Is on the SWCP.
  • Morwenstow - Is just off the SWCP. Take the footpath that heads inland at Vicarage Cliff.
  • Mullion Cove - Take the SWCP from Poldhu for approximately 1.9 miles.
  • Penrose - The SWCP visits the property at Loe Bar, take the footpath on the north side of Loe Bar for walks through the parkland or on the south side of Loe Bar for woodland and farmland walks. From Helston access through Degibna or Helston Drive. From Porthleven access via Penrose Hill or Highburrow.
  • Pentire - The SWCP runs around the headland, just north of Polzeath.
  • Poldhu Cove - On the SWCP, approximately 1½ miles north of Mullion Cove.
  • Port Quin - The SWCP runs through the small fishing hamlet and cliffs either side.
  • Porthcurno - Is on the SWCP.
  • Sandymouth - The SWCP runs along the cliffs at Sandymouth, north of Bude.
  • St Anthony Head - The SWCP winds through the whole of the Roseland.
  • St Michaels Mount - The SWCP within ¾ mile, access to Mount on foot over the causeway at low tide only. From 1st April - 31st October when the tide is high access to the island is via boat.
  • Tintagel Old Post Office - The SWCP within ¾ mile, with Tintagel Old Post Office opposite King Arthur's Arms pub, in the middle of Fore Street.
  • Trengwainton Garden - from Penzance via Heamoor village.
  • Trevose Head - The SWCP runs around the headland, 8.5 miles (13.7km) south of Padstow.

Arriving by water

  • Boscastle - Visiting vessels pay an overnight mooring fee for use of harbour to the Boscastle Fishermen's Association, payable at the Boscastle Visitor Centre.
  • Bosveal - Access from the Lizard Peninsula by ferry from Helford village to Helford Passage, take the SWCP from Helford Passage to Durgan village, follow the road leaving Durgan village uphill the entrance to Bosveal car park is on the left. The total Distance is 0.8 miles and takes approximately 20 minutes.
  • Carne and Pendower - Passenger ferries link Falmouth, Truro, St Mawes and Place (near St Anthony Head). The King Harry Ferry is an iconic car ferry connecting the Roseland with Falmouth and Truro.
  • Cotehele - Plymouth Boat Trips host cruises a few times a month along the River Tamar on route to Calstock and offers passengers the opportunity to stop off at Cotehele Quay. Visit plymouthboattrips.co.uk for more details and timetables.

  • Glendurgan Garden - Access from the Lizard Peninsula by ferry from Helford village to Helford Passage, take the SWCP from Helford Passage to Durgan village, follow the road leaving Durgan village uphill the entrance to Bosveal car park is on the left. The total Distance is 0.8 miles and takes approximately 20 minutes.
  • St Anthony Head - Passenger ferries link Falmouth, Truro, St Mawes and Place (near St Anthony Head). The King Harry Ferry is an iconic car ferry connecting the Roseland with Falmouth and Truro.
  • St Michael's Mount - From 1st April - 31st October when the tide is high access to the island is via boat. Boats will take passengers to and from the mainland from one of three landing points, Chapel Rock, Gwelva or Top Tieb. Boat landing directions will be clearly signposted upon arrival in Marazion. All passengers must pay the one-way boat fee (£2.50 adult / £1.50 children under 18 (under 1’s free)). Ferry boat tickets can be purchased on the St Michael's Mount website: www.stmichaelsmount.co.uk
  • Trelissick - Enterprise boats run a service from Falmouth, Truro and St Mawes: visit the (www.falriver.co.uk/ferries/enterprise-boats) or call 01326 741194 for details of ferries, routes and the daily operating timetable (it is seasonal). Please be aware there is a steep uphill walk from the ferry pontoon not suitable for wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
