Nordic Walking for Parkinson’s
To complement our Parkinson’s running and walking groups, Dorset Council are offering Nordic Walking sessions to help those living with Parkinson's to become more active or maintain an active lifestyle and get out in nature at Kingston Lacy.
- Booking essential
Physical activity is one of the most important things you can do to live well with Parkinson's. Regular activity can help manage symptoms, improve balance and mobility, build confidence and support overall wellbeing. These Nordic Walking sessions will provide weekly walks around Kingston Lacy.
The 12-week programme commences with a free ‘Get into Nordic’ 4-week course (Monday 7 September to Monday 28 September, at 2pm) and this will be followed by 8-weeks of Wellness Walks (Mondays at 2pm) which will be charged at £4.75 per person. If you would like to attend these booking is essential via the Dorset Council website or by phoning 01425 480811.
No previous Nordic Walking experience is required and poles will be provided.
You will be joined and supported by a friendly, sociable group of walkers and will have the opportunity to join up with those taking part in the Parkinson’s walking and running programmes in the café after each session.
Through the programme we can also offer advice on how Nordic walking can enable you to keep active whilst living with Parkinson's and you will receive ideas and guidance to help you stay active between sessions.
Looking for other ways to be active with Parkinsons? Take a look at our Stepping into Parkinson’s and nature: Couch to 5K running programme or Stepping into Parkinson's and nature: walking programme. These take place alongside the Nordic Walking group, and you get to be part of the same sociable group.
