Join us for an extraordinary opportunity during the 2025 Festival of Archaeology as renowned archaeologist Martin Papworth leads tours of Chedworth Roman Villa. Hear firsthand accounts of remarkable discoveries from the very man who unearthed them. Martin will share stories from his extensive excavations including the discovery of Britain's only known 5th century mosaic – a groundbreaking discovery that rewrote our understanding of Roman Britain's final chapter. You'll also learn about a fragment of ancient glass once part of a luxury perfume bottle and a precious piece of marble traced to the Emperor's Quarry in the Sea of Marmara, revealing the extraordinary wealth and status of Chedworth's residents. Martin will also reveal his latest research on the South Range – one of the villa's greatest mysteries that continues to intrigue archaeologists and historians alike.
Tours take place at 11:30, 13:30 and 15:00. Capacity 30 people per tour. Normal admission charges apply, with free entry for National Trust members. No pre-booking.
