Lawn games

Try your hand at quoites, see who can build the highest jenga tower or get sporty with a game of badminton. There are plenty of games and activities to play with the whole family on the grassy area around the cafe. You can also get creative drawing your own hopscotch grid or activity path with chalk. We also have a large green space to run around in, and a chillout zone in the elderflower orchard with hammocks to relax in.

Summer of Play

Come and enjoy the great outdoors this summer. From the 21st July to the 2nd September, we are hosting a special summer of play at Tinkley Gate, sponsored by Starling Bank. There will be toys to borrow, like kites and frisbees, a giant chess set, giant jenga, football, badminton and a few games you may not have played, like 'Nine mens morris' and cornhole. Instructions will be provided for each game, and for the little ones, we also have backpacks to borrow with bug spotter pots, binoculars and colouring and art materials.

Picnics at Tinkley Gate and Woodchester Park

If you would like to bring you own food and drink to Woodchester, and use the grass area outside, you are welcome to do so. We have a number of benches outside and dotted around the landscape for you to use, and you can also borrow blankets from our second-hand book shop. Setting up a picnic spot for the day at Tinkley Gate is the perfect way to enjoy a summer day out as a family.

Things to do in the park

Take a wander from Buckholt car park and explore the play trail that leads around the mansion and Italian gardens. The shapes of the play equipment are influenced by the Gothic mansion, see if you can spot the links when you walk past.
