Harvest and Heritage: from Farming to the Future

Get to know farming over the ages at Hinton Ampner. Find out what was grown in the fields surrounding the house in 1839, glimpse the future of farming here in 2083 and see harvest inspired items from the collection.

  • Booking not needed
  • Free event (admission applies)

Throughout the house, follow the story of harvest at Hinton Ampner. In the drawing room, see a map from 1839 showing crop planning and then look to the future with a visualisation of the farming landscape at Hinton Ampner is 2083; depicting a farming landscape where regenerative farming and crop rotation has ensured the productive endurance of the land and created a habitat for a diverse range of wildlife. Enter the library to find richly illustrated English botany books depicting key elements of the farming revolution, before stepping into the drama of the dining room where a harvest produce themed Minton dinner service awaits, celebrating the abundance of the land. Spot artichokes, cauliflower, sweetcorn, radishes, beetroot, and rhubarb to name but a few!
