Conservation in Action at Hinton Ampner
Take a closer look at the care that goes into protecting Hinton Ampner’s collection, as our Blue John urns are carefully cleaned and repaired using traditional conservation techniques.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
Join us at Hinton Ampner this September to see conservation in action. Our specialist conservator will be carefully cleaning a pair of Blue John urns and repairing a damaged handle using traditional techniques.
Blue John is a beautiful but delicate stone, so the work requires careful examination and gentle cleaning to ensure the urns are not damaged. Once cleaned, the broken handle will be reattached using fine dental plaster before being left supported while it sets.
This behind-the-scenes work offers a glimpse into the specialist care and conservation that helps protect Hinton Ampner’s collections for future generations.
