Conservation Week at Knole
During Conservation Week you can see the amazing work that goes on to care for Knole's collection in the showrooms alongside specialist conservation in the Royal Oak Foundation Conservation Studio.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
In the showrooms, you can find the Collections team in the Great Hall and learn more about the tools they use to care for the historic collection at Knole. From Monday to Friday at 12pm and 2pm, the team will be giving 15 minute talks about the role they play as preventative conservators.
In the Leicester Gallery, they'll be using specialist methods to consolidate the original floor surface, helping to keep it stable for many more years to come.
Throughout the showrooms furniture will be opened to see the hidden details inside.
From Wednesday to Saturday in the Royal Oak Foundation Conservation Studio, join conservators for a talk at 1.30pm to find out about the specialist work they do: Wednesday - ‘Revealing Gainsborough: The Conservation Journey of Two Petworth Paintings'; Thursday - ‘The Science of Arts: The Newly Created National Trust Paint Sample Archive at the Royal Oak Foundation Conservation Studio’; Friday - ‘From Ivory to Ebony, the Conservation of Remarkable Historic Furniture: A Lanhydrock Antwerp Cabinet and Knole’s Ivory Chair’; Saturday - ‘Preserving Social History Collections: Conservation Projects from Arlington Court and Clandon Park’.
