During Conservation Week you can see the amazing work that goes on to care for Knole's collection in the showrooms alongside specialist conservation in the Royal Oak Foundation Conservation Studio.
In the showrooms, the Collections and House Team will be working throughout the showrooms, demonstrating how they clean and conserve historic objects. Chat to the team and learn how they care for chairs that once belonged to King James I, artwork by 18th century European masters and wall paintings that have witnessed 400 years of visitors to Knole. Along the way uncover temporary displays that reveal secret drawers, long lost notes and hidden graffiti.
Meanwhile, in The Royal Oak Foundation Conservation Studio there are opportunities to meet the conservators and learn about their work in more detail. Specialist paintings, objects and furniture conservators will be discussing their projects and offering an insight into the techniques and materials they use to conserve and restore items from the National Trust’s vast and varied collections. They'll be available to talk and put questions to Wednesday to Saturday, 1.30-2.30pm.
Showrooms open daily 11am-4pm, last entry 3.30pm. Conservation Studio open Wed - Sat, 11am-4pm, last entry 3.30pm. Normal admission applies.
