Hill Top Herdwick - Exclusive Guided Walks
Join the Hill Top Farm team on an exclusive guided tour at Hill Top Farm, Near Sawrey, renowned as the first farm owned by Beatrix Potter.
- Booking essential
The farm at Hill Top remains fully operational all year round, just as Beatrix Potter loved and envisioned.
The Dixons, the tenants of the farm who are keeping Beatrix's legacy alive and well, are very excited to invite you on this rare opportunity to go beyond the gate and capture a glimpse of the working Lakeland farm as it is today. Enjoy the picturesque landscape setting of Near Sawrey and discover more about the farm on their leisurely guided walk, which aims to provide a pleasurable and informative insight. The tours last approximately 1 hour and 15 mins.
Please note, this event is run by the tenants of Hill Top farm, and therefore does not grant you access to Hill Top. If you wish to visit the house as well, please book that separately through our website.

The basics
- Booking details
Call No calls, please email: info@hilltopherdwick.co.uk
- Suitability
The walk is unsuitable for young children under 14 years of age.
- Meeting point
Private parking is available but limited within Courier Yard c/o Hill Top Farm. Please park responsibly and compassionately. Further details can be gained by booking.
- What to bring and wear
Please wear suitable outdoor footwear and raincoats - much of the walk is on uneven and sometimes slippery ground. The potential for rain is always a possibility.
- Accessibility
We encourage you to plan your visit ahead - use public transport when convenient, or why not embrace the natural beauty of the area and travel on foot or by cycle. Due to the location and layout of the farm, at this initial stage, the walk unfortunately does not lend itself easily to those with accessibility requirements.
- Other
Talks will start punctually. Please arrive at a suitable time, approximately 10 mins before the planned start time. This is a working farm. To keep everyone safe, including our farm, we strongly advise and ask you to use the hand washing facility and foot disinfectant dip on site. Funded by FIPL. We strongly advise pregnant ladies do not attend during the lambing season.
