Working with Nick Wilson to improve accessibility
The National Trust is for everyone. We want our disabled visitors to have a great experience with us, and we are always working to improve the accessibility of the places in our care.
Over the past few years, we've been working with disability advocate Nick Wilson, also known as The Disabled Adventurer. Through his work with the National Trust, Nick has shared valuable lived experience insights, helping us better understand visitor needs and identify practical improvements that can make a real difference.
Helping visitors plan with confidence
Nick has visited a number of National Trust places to review accessibility, sharing his lived experience and making practical suggestions to help us improve accessibility, while also highlighting the information visitors need to plan ahead.
As part of this work, Nick has created a series of visitor journey videos highlighting accessibility features, routes and facilities. These give disabled visitors a better idea of what to expect before they arrive, helping them make informed choices and get the most from their visit.
Nick's 50at50 project
To celebrate turning 50, Nick is currently taking on his biggest challenge to date, 50at50. To raise money, change assumptions and create real change for disabled people, Nick is riding multiple 50km trails in his powerchair.
The challenge aims to raise funds for free-to-use all-terrain powerchairs, helping more disabled people access outdoor spaces and enjoy nature in places that may otherwise be difficult or impossible to explore.
Through 50at50, specialist all-terrain powerchairs will be introduced at locations across the UK, with Blickling Estate among the National Trust places expected to benefit.

We're proud to continue working with Nick as we look for new ways to improve accessibility and create more inclusive experiences for everyone.
