The roots of me: art exhibition
Experience art brought to life in nature, delivered by north east women's community groups.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
This community art exhibition brings together a thoughtful collection of nature‑inspired self‑portraits created by women and girls from Gateshead.
Participants took part in creative workshops where they explored the story of Mary Eleanor Bowes, whose strength and love of botany are rooted at Gibside.
The women explored how resilience and identity can be found in the natural world. Each self-portrait captures a personal journey shaped by different life experiences, all connected by the shared restorative power of nature.
