Discover Coleshill
22nd of August. See our secret WW2 base, working watermill and Victorian Model Farm. There will also be a chance to take a guided tour up to the site of Coleshill house, destroyed by fire in the 1950s, and to see the Heritage and Rural Skills Centre.
- Booking advisable
A chance to visit Coleshill and see many of the sites across the village, including the mill, secret underground base, model farm and the site of Coleshill House, many of which are not usually open to the public.
Our replica WW2 secret base will open, where you can learn about the top-secret army that trained at Coleshill, and see how they would have fought and lived if an invasion had taken place.
Coleshill's working water mill will also be open. If water levels permit the mill will be operating, offering a rare chance to see 18th century mill machinery carrying out its original function. Learn about how the power of water was harnessed to make flour and find out about the many milling phrases that have entered day-to-day use.
The Heritage and Rural Skills exhibition will be open, highlighting the work being done to preserve endangered traditional and rural skills, discover more about the craftspeople who work from studios here today, and find out why it's so important to keep heritage skills alive.
Tours of the site of Coleshill house, lost to fire in the 1950s, will be running. These tours offer a rare chance to see where the house once stood and to learn more about its history.
There will also be a chance to hear more about our work to restore nature across the Buscot and Coleshill estate, including a guided walk and family activities.
