Summer Open Weekend
Join us on the 1 and 2 August and enjoy free entry to the gardens at Stowe.
- Booking not needed
- Free event (admission applies)
We're opening our doors for free to mark 300 years of architect Sir John Vanbrugh's creative legacy.
Vanbrugh arrived at Stowe in 1719, working alongside garden designer Charles Bridgeman and commissioned by Lord Cobham, who had just begun developing the estate after years abroad.
Vanbrugh’s role was to bring architectural drama to the grounds and help unify the existing house. Although many of his structures were later altered or replaced, his creative flare marked the beginning of Stowe’s transformation into one of Britain’s great 18th‑century estates.
Stowe House (not National Trust) will be offering visitors a special £3 admission (usually adult prices £9.50 - NT Members £7.50) and running a selection of events including crafts, workshops and storytelling. To find out more visit stowehouse.org
