Introduction to Natural Dyeing Workshop
Have a go at some heritage crafts with this half-day natural dye workshop. A hands-on experience perfect for beginners and craft enthusiasts alike.
- Booking essential
Try something new and have a go at natural dyeing in this half a day workshop using both wool yarn and cotton fabric.
What to expect during your workshop:
· Make and use a natural dye bath using a dye plant from the Hardwick Hall gardens.
· Be introduced to the uses of mordents and modifiers and see how these can change the outcome of your dyeing.
· Be shown some different shibori tying techniques and dye your experiments using an existing natural woad vat.
· Hot drink included from the restaurant (hot chocolate, tea, or filter coffee).
At the end of the workshop, you will be able to take home 4 x 10g of your dyed yarn, perfect for a few granny squares or to make some handmade coasters, along with your tie-die experiments.
If you would like to take part in spinning, dyeing and weaving altogether, please visit Hardwick’s 4-part Fleece to Fabric Workshop event page for more information.
