Tile Decorating Workshop at Benthall Barns
Come along and have a go at creating your very own tile in the beautiful setting of Benthall Hall, former residence of the tile manufacturer George Maw.
- Booking essential
As part of the wonderful exhibition celebrating the work and travels of George Maw, who was famously a resident of Benthall Hall, we are delighted to be able to offer these tile decorating workshops on the site.
Workshop sessions will take place in the Farmyard barn and are expected to last around an hour depending upon the complexity of the design you choose. Workshop sessions are open to children and adults. Why not come along as part of your visit to this beautiful site?
If you are not a National Trust member you will be able to access the workshop space without entering the main property.
The workshop fee is £18 per participant. Children under 10 may need assistance from their grown-ups and all under 16s must be accompanied. There is no charge for non-tile makers.
This workshop enables you to create your own unique tile using the traditional decorating process of tubelining. Using a clay slip to create an outline you will then infill your pattern with our beautiful coloured glazes (although they will be mostly grey on the day!).
Once your tiles are finished, they are dried before being fired to 1030 degrees. This usually takes around 2 weeks, but can take longer at busy times. We will then post out your tile to you, if you are not local enough to collect (please select this option, if it is required, when you book).
