Christmas at Blists Hill 

Experience the magic of a traditional Victorian Christmas this festive season at Blists Hill. Inspired by the world of 'A Christmas Carol' discover how Christmas was celebrated before the age of commercialisation.

Enjoy the sights, sounds and spirit of a nineteenth-century Chrismas brought to life by costumed Victorian townsfolk, authentic decorations, real Christmas trees, and seasonal greenery adorning the town. 

Location: Blists Hill Victorian Town

Dates: Saturday 21 November 2026 - 4 January 2027 (early closing for Christmas Eve 24 December. Closed Christmas Day 25 December, and Boxing Day 26 December).

Times: 9am - 5pm. Last admission 3.30pm. Exhibits open at 9.30am and close at 4.30pm. Last admission on Christmas Eve 24 December will be at 1pm due to the site closing early at 3pm.

Booking: Tickets for Blists Hill must be booked in advance, due to high visitor numbers during weekends and holidays periods. Booking slots will go live two weeks before the event, and released on a rolling basis every Thursday morning. For group visits please visit the Group Bookings webpage.
 

Please note that Blists Hill will be closed from 9 November - 20 November while we decorate the town and set up for Christmas.

What's on over Christmas at Blists Hill

There's plenty for everyone of all ages to enjoy. Immerse yourself in the heartwarming celebrations of Christmas past, that captures the timeless wonder and community spirit of the Victorian era. 

Explore the decorated shops and streets. Listen to carol singers performing at the music hall where you can join in with a festive sing song.

See domestric demonstrations in the cottages. Enjoy freshly baked goods in the Bakery, and warm up with fish and chips in the Chip Shop. Watch horse harnessing demonstrations in Saw Mill Yard, and take part in a Christmas-themed tour from outside the Boys Brigade. You can even see it snow (every hour!) in Canal Street.

Days out with the family

Families can also enjoy a host of festive activities throughout the town. Write a Victorian letter to Father Christmas, print your own Christmas posters, and take part in two seasonal trails (a small additional charge applies for the trails and posters). Alongside these hands-on experiences, visitors can soak up the atmosphere of the fairground during weekends and school holidays.

Calm Christmas

We know the hustle and bustle of Christmas can sometimes feel a little over whelming and overstimulating. So, we'll be offer some quieter visit tickets on Tuesdays for those that would benefit from a less busy experience.

During this period, there will be a reduced number of visitors and the flexibility to see Blists Hill in a way that reduces sensory overload and allowing for personal comfort and relaxation.

Dates: Tuesdays through our Christmas opening period. 24 November, 3, 8, 15, 22 December.

Times: 9am - 10.45am

Booking: Please book your tickets as normal through the website.

More to explore across Ironbridge Gorge

Our festive celebrations are focused around Blists Hill this Christmas. But there's more to explore across the Gorge. 

The Museum of Iron will continue to be open daily from 9am - 4pm, with some festive decorations. The Toll House will also be open daily from 10am - 4pm displaying a little seasonal festive cheer. Please note that both of these locations will close early at 3pm on 24 December, and will both be closed on 25 and 26 December 2026.

Jackfield Tile Museum will be closed during December but the shops nextdoor will remain open selling hand-crafted goods made by local tradespeople - the perfect opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for friends and family. Head to the eating and shopping page to find out more about the local craftspeople and their opening times.

 

Eating and Shopping at Ironbridge this Christmas

At Blists Hill the Welcome Cafe and Forest Glen will both be open daily from 9am - 5pm, serving light bites, tray bakes, cakes, snacks, and hot and cold drinks. Festive food such as Christmas Turkey baps, and Festive Pies will also be available. 

Why not dig in to a scone of the month, mince pie with almond. Or enjoy a cream team with brandy clotted cream and orange marmalade.

Warm up with a selection of seasonal hit drinks including pumpkin spice latte, gingerbread latte, and hot chocolates.

After Christmas at Ironbridge

We're looking forward to our program of events and activities in 2027. To help us our team prepare for the year ahead, Blists Hill will briefly be closed from 5 January - 24 January 2027 to allow us to take down Christmas, and to carry out vital cleaning, conservation and maintenance works safely.

Blists Hill will reopen daily for pre-booked visits from 9am - 4pm, with last entry at 3pm from 25 January 2027. We will move to Spring and Summer opening times from Saturday 13 February 9am - 5pm.

Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron and the Toll House will remain open daily throughout January from 10am - 4pm, with last entry at 3.30pm.

The Furnace Kitchen will also be open daily throughout January from 9am - 4pm.

Jackfield Tile Museum will reopen on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 5 March. 

Broseley Pipe Works will reopen for pre-booked, guided tours on selected dattes from 13 March.
