Changing Landscape Exhibition
This exhibition tells the 900-year story of the landscape at Petworth, the people who lived and worked in it, and explores what landscape means to people now and in the past.

Petworth Park has changed dramatically over the past 900 years, as have the lives of the people connected to it.
Changing Landscape tells this story through a selection of reproductions of painting and drawings, photographs, finds from our recent archaeological digs and a large model of Petworth Park. It gives a fascinating glimpse into the past and details the landscape's evolution from common land to Henry VIII's hunting park, then formal gardens to 'Capability' Brown's naturalistic landscape, through to the present day.
The last 100 years have seen changes again as the park is now accessible to more people for leisure and enjoyment.
Changing Landscape will be on display in the Marble Hall at Petworth House, 7 July – 17 August 2025.
